CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team concludes the fall season as five student-athletes will compete at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, held Nov. 6-9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Juniors Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) will compete in singles, while junior transfer Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.) and freshman Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.) will compete in doubles.

In the singles round of 32 on Thursday, sixth-seeded Elbaba meets Cal’s Zsofi Susanyi and seventh-seeded Collins faces Vanderbilt’s Sydney Campbell. Nauta battles Julia Jones of Ole Miss. Elbaba and Collins earned wild card entries into the tournament, while Nauta earned an automatic berth after winning the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional singles title. Elbaba has posted a 7-2 fall collegiate record, while Nauta is 13-3. Collins, the reigning NCAA singles champion, will make her season debut at the event.

Mercer and Morton battle Oklahoma State’s Kelsey Laurente and Viktoriya Lushkova in the round of 32 on Thursday. Mercer and Morton earned automatic entry into the doubles competition after claiming the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional title. The duo has posted a 9-2 record, including a win over No. 55 Welma Luus and Nataliya Bredikhina of Maryland.
