CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The third-ranked Virginia men’s soccer team played No. 9 Georgetown to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at a soggy Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers open the regular season Friday with an 8 p.m. match against No. 25 Old Dominion.

Riggs Lennon (So., Paradise Valley, Ariz.) scored in the 75th minute for the Cavaliers. After Patrick Foss (So., South Riding, Va.) sent a ball into the box, Lennon battled for the loose ball and after jarring it away from the defender, he poked it past goalkeeper Tomas Gomez for the game’s first score.

Georgetown knotted the score in the 85th minute off a corner kick. Tyler Rudy sent a kick into the box and found Jared Rist, who headed it just under the crossbar for the score.

Georgetown out-shot Virginia, 12-10, although UVa put four shots on goal to two for the Hoyas. Virginia freshman goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell (Todd, N.C.) made one save, while Georgetown keeper Tomas Gomez recorded three saves.

After the 90-minute exhibition, the teams’ reserves played an extra 30-minute period with Georgetown recording the lone score.
