Charlottesville, Va. – After winning the first Atlantic Coast Conference title in the program’s 12-year history, the Virginia women’s golf team placed three members on the All-ACC squad and head coach Kim Lewellen was honored as the league’s coach of the year.

The three players voted to the All-ACC team by the league’s coaches were senior Briana Mao (Folsom, Calif.), junior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) and sophomore Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.). Mao was honored for the second time in her career. She also received All-ACC honors as a sophomore in 2012. The only other time the Cavaliers have placed three golfers on the All-ACC squad came in 2009.

Mao tied for first at the ACC Championships but lost the individual crown in a two-hole playoff to ACC Player and Freshman of the Year, Leona Maguire of Duke. Both players tied the ACC record by shooting 10-under 206, which ranks as the lowest tourney score in UVa history. During the season, Mao picked up her second career win, placing first at the Bryan National Collegiate.

Diaz-Yi leads the Cavaliers with a 72.26 stroke average that ranks second in the conference. She was named the league’s player of the month twice (October and February) and picked up individual titles twice during the season.

Coughlin tied for fourth at the ACC Championships and set UVa’s single-round scoring record during the season with a 7-under 65 at the UCF Challenge, which tied as the best single round by an ACC competitor this season.

Lewellen led the Cavaliers to three tournament titles during the season and to a current ranking of No. 9 in the Golfstat standings. Her team is the No. 3 seed at the NCAA Regional in St. George, Utah, that starts Thursday. It marks the second time in her career she has been voted by her peers as the ACC Coach of the Year. She also received the honor in 2008.
