CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Three Virginia men’s tennis players are competing in qualifying for two professional tournaments this weekend.

Juniors Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) and Alexander Ritschard (Knoxville, Tn.) are competing in qualifying for the $50,000 Knoxville Challenger. Wiersholm picked up a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4) over Scott Jones on Sunday to advance to the second round. Wiersholm fell 7-6 (3), 6-3 No. 1 qualifying seed Liam Broady, currently ranked No. 301, on Monday.

Ritschard fell 6-1, 6-2 to Yuki Bhambri in the first round.

Redshirt freshman Aswin Lizen (Douglas, Isle of Man) has advanced to the main draw at the $10,000 Futures tournament in San Jose, Costa Rica. Lizen, the No. 2 seed in the qualifying tournament, downed Daniel Quesada 6-3, 6-4 in the first round and Hector Neftali 6-3, 6-0 in the final to earn a spot in the main draw.

Lizen fell 6-2, 6-0 to Bernardo Saraiva in the first round of the main draw.
