Keeping the Streak Alive
Former #UVAXC runner Chris Farley ’98 has quite an impressive streak of 20-straight years of running sub-three-hour marathons. This wonderful feature from UVA Today‘s Whitelaw Reid talks about the drastic measures necessary to keep the streak alive, as well as offering a wonderful profile of the graduate of the McIntire School of Commerce. Definitely give this one a read!

Hoos Got Trophies
Yes! Our favorite Monday feature returns with a quadruple dip. Congratulations to two #UVAMTEN players on tournament wins this weekend. J.C. Aragone (above) won the doubles title at an ITF Pro-Circuit Futures tournament in Winston-Salem, N.C., while Thai-Son Kwiatkowski picked up the singles crown at a Futures tourney in Calgary, Canada. It was Aragone’s first professional doubles title while Kwiatkowski won his fourth career singles crown, and second of the year.
Hoos in the Pros
Some members of #UVABase’s 2018 MLB draft class got their first taste of professional baseball this weekend. Jake McCarthy, who was selected 39th overall in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Dimaondbacks, got his first hit and his first RBI on Sunday, playing for the Hillsboro Hops outside of Portland, Oregon. Last season, Pavin Smith made his pro debut in Hillsboro.
Closer to home, Daniel Lynch made his professional debut pitching for the Burlington Royals in Burlington, N.C. (just outside of Greensboro) on Friday night. You can read about/watch highlights from his debut here in a story from CBS19.
Brandon Downes didn’t make his professional debut (he has been in the minors since 2014), but made his debut with a new organization this weekend. Downes was acquired by the Braves organization in a trade with Kansas City and was assigned to the Mississippi Braves. He responded to the trade by hitting a home run in Sunday’s game, which you can watch here.
