UVA Off to Hot Start at Tar Heel Invitational
Chapel Hill, N.C. – The Virginia women’s golf team shot the second-best 18-hole score in program history to stand in second place after the opening day of play at the Tar Heel Invitational. The Cavaliers shot 11-under 277 at North Carolina’s Finley Golf Course and trail only Duke (271) in the 18-team field.
UVA was led by seniors Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) and Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) who are tied for fourth place after shooting 4-under 68. Patrick’s score equaled her best single-round score as a collegiate.
Sophomore Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) also equaled her low collegiate score by shooting 1-under 70 and stands in 12th place. Sophomore Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) is in 14th place at 71 and senior Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) is 52nd after posting a round of 76.
The three-day tournament runs through Sunday.
