CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –
In the opening game of the 2018 Virginia baseball Orange and Blue World Series, Blue came away with an 8-2 victory in seven innings. Blue never trailed and scored the game’s first eight runs.
 
Sophomore Devin Ortiz (Nutley, N.J) was one of three, multi-hit performers for blue, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Sophomore Brendan Rivoli (Douglasville, Pa.) and junior Nate Eikhoff (Bristow, Va.) each had two hits and an RBI to help pace the Blue offense.
 
Blue starting pitcher Noah Murdock (Colonial Heights, Va.) allowed one run over four innings and earned the victory. He scattered five hits, walked one and struck out one. Kyle Whitten (Manassas, Va.) worked a scoreless seventh inning to seal the Blue win.
 
Blue scored five runs in the first two innings and tacked on a three-run fourth that was aided by an Orange fielding error.
 
Freshman Jack Dragum (Mechanicsville, Va.) accounted for two of the six Orange hits. He drove in the first run of the game for Orange with a double down the right field line that scored Cameron Simmons (Royersford, Pa.). Dragum finished the night 2-for-3 with an RBI.
 
The Orange and Blue World Series continues on Sunday night (Oct. 14) with game two at Disharoon Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Admission to all Orange and Blue World Series games is free.
