UVA Seeds Advance In Doubles, All Advance In Singles At ITA Atlantic Regional

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Both seeded teams advanced in doubles, while all five singles players from the Virginia women’s tennis team advanced in singles action on Saturday (Oct. 13) at the ITA Atlantic Regional hosted by Liberty.
Second-seeded Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine), the No. 12 seed Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), the No. 16 seed Amber O’Dell (New Milford, N.J.), Hunter Bleser (New Braunfels, Texas) and Camille Favero (Sacramento, Calif.) all advanced to the second round of action in singles play with wins in the opening round of play on Saturday.
In doubles play, the second-seeded pairing of Kelley and Sofia Munera (Pereira, Colombia) picked up a pair of wins to advance into Sunday’s quarterfinals, while the No. 3 seeded pairing of Gullickson and O’Dell also advanced to the quarterfinals with two wins.
Falling in second-round doubles action on Saturday were the UVA pairing of Lizzie Baker (Washington, D.C.) and Maya Das (Potomac, Md.), and the duo of Bleser and Favero. Baker and Das fell to the No. 16 seeded team in the bracket, while Bleser and Favero fell in a tight match with the ninth-seeded team.
Play continues on Sunday with the second round of singles action beginning at 9 a.m. and the doubles quarterfinals in the afternoon.
The winners will advance to compete at the Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships from Nov. 7-11 in Surprise, Ariz. Players can also play their way into an at-large berth with their performances in regional play.
The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships features 128 of the nation’s top collegiate singles players (64 men and 64 women) and 64 doubles teams (32 men’s teams and 32 women’s teams). In its second year, having replaced the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, it is the lone event on the collegiate tennis calendar to feature competitors from all five divisions playing in the same tournament.
