CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- Virginia sophomore Paige Madden (Mobile, Ala.) was named to the 2019 World University Games roster on Thursday (Oct. 18) as announced by USA Swimming. The Cavalier swimmer will represent the U.S. in the 200-meter freestyle in Naples, Italy, next July.

Madden qualified for the team with her performance at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships in Irvine, Calif. She recorded a time of 1:58.50, third-best time in UVA history, in the preliminary rounds, advancing to the top heat at the U.S. national championship. She finished eighth in the finals with a time of 1:59.16.

Madden is the ninth UVA female swimmer to compete at the World University Games. Former Virginia swimmers Laura Simon and Leah Smith competed at the 2015 games.

The U.S. roster features 52 swimmers from 18 universities. The seven-day meet (July 4-10, 2019) will be held in Naples, Italy.
