CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – With a 3-2, extra-inning win in game five, Blue clinched the Orange and Blue World Series with its fourth victory. Freshman Jimmy Sullivan (Wethersfield, Conn.) drove in the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth.

Junior Grant Donahue (Berlin, Md.) retired all nine batters, striking out five to earn the victory. The right-hander has not surrendered the hit in three appearances (5 IP) in the series.

Devin Ortiz (Nutley, N.J.) scored the game-deciding run after leading off the top of the eighth with a double down the left field line. He was sacrificed over to third base by Cayman Richardson (Mechanicsville, Va.) and was plated on deep fly ball to center by Sullivan. Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a run scored, upping his series average to .400 (6-for-15).

Blue’s comeback from a 2-1 deficit was jolted by the first home run of the series off the bat of Jalen Harrison (Palmyra, Va.). The junior blasted a solo shot over the left centerfield wall to tie the game at two in the top of the fourth inning.

Freshman Jack Dragum (Mechanicsville, Va.) had a game-high three hits and plated the first two runs of the game for Orange. He drove in Drew Hamrock (Roswell, Ga.) with a single in the bottom of the first and later in the frame stole home for Orange’s second run.

Orange starting pitcher Griff McGarry (Portola Valley, Calif.) went a series-high six innings and struck out five batters. Freshman Mike Vasil (Wellesley, Mass.) countered with five innings of two-run baseball for Blue. Vasil fanned three batters and now owns a 1.80 ERA in 10 innings pitched this fall.
