Spider Invite Friday Results

RICHMOND, Va. –  Four members of the Virginia men’s tennis team are competing at the Spider Invitational from Friday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 7., in Richmond, Va.
 
The completion will be split between two venues, the Westhampton Tennis Courts at the University of Richmond and the Collegiate School Robins Campus.
 
Freshman William Woodall (Washington, D.C.) and sophomore Ammar Alhaqbani (Alexandria, Va.) opened the competition with victories in the A singles bracket. Woodall downed Andrew Rozanov of Georgetown 6-4, 6-2 while Alhaqbani dispatched Simon Labbe of East Carolina, 6-2, 6-4.
 
Woodall and Alhaqbani also partnered in the A doubles bracket, downing tandems from ODU and Campbell, both by a 7-5 score, to advance to the bracket’s championship match where they will face a duo from Navy.
 
Sophomore Jerome Romualdez (Manila, Philippines) won his singles match against Radford’s Reed Crabtree, 6-3, 6-4. Sophomore Spencer Bozsik (Charlottesville, Va.) was edged 6-2, 7-6 by Francesco Laccarino of Longwood.
 
Romuladez and Bozsik won their opening doubles match 6-4 against a team from Radford, but fell in the second round, 6-2, against Richmond’s Lovitt and Nardini.
 
Players from 15 schools will be competing in the tournament which is comprised of seven singles flights and five doubles brackets.
 
Saturday’s matches will begin at 8:30 a.m.
 
Live scoring and video will not be available for the matches, but results will be posted on VirginiaSports.com after the conclusion of the matches each day.
