CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (0-2) will play at Old Dominion (3-0) on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Va.

Noting the Cavaliers

• Virginia has won the battle of the boards in both of its games this season, outrebounding Mississippi State, 43-41, and Kentucky, 41-33, giving the Cavaliers a +5.0 rebounding margin
• Junior center Felicia Aiyeotan (Lagos, Nigeria) had a career-high 16 rebounds against Mississippi State and 13 against Kentucky. Her 14.5 rebounds per game ranks 10th nationally (through Friday night’s games). She is also averaging 4.5 blocked shots per game which ranks fourth nationally. She leads the ACC in both categories
• Aiyeotan is averaging 11.5 defensive rebounds per game
• Aiyeotan has 132 blocked shots in her career. She is seven shy of tying Jocelyn Logan-Friend for third on the UVA all-time list. Logan-Griend (2002-05) blocked 139 shots in 111 games. Aiyeotan will be playing in the 69th game of her career on Sunday. Heather Burge (1990-93) ranks second with 152 in 135 games. DeMya Walker (1996-99) holds the record with 330 blocked shots. Walker ranks third all-time in the ACC. Aiyeotan has a chance to move into the top-25 in the ACC in blocked shots this season. Carolyn Swords of Boston College (2007-11) currently ranks 25th at 178 blocked shots. Notre Dame’s Brianna Turner is the conference’s active career leader with 263 in 100 games (heading into this season)
• The Cavaliers have had two different players lead the team in scoring in the first two games: junior Dominique Toussaint (Staten Island, N.Y.) with 19 points against Mississippi State and freshman Erica Martinsen (Clarence, N.Y.) scored 15 points at Kentucky

 
Last time out

• Virginia fell 63-51 at Kentucky on Thursday at Rupp Arena
• The Cavaliers rallied in the fourth quarter, cutting a once 18-point deficit (48-31, 8:01 Q4) down to 10 points, 55-45, on a three-pointer by Dominique Toussaint with 2:04 remaining.A three-pointer from Jocelyn Willoughby with 51 seconds remaining made it a single-digit deficit, but Kentucky held on for the victory.
• Erica Martinsen led all scorers with 15 points, going 6-of-10 from the floor and 3-of-7 from three-point range. Martinsen scored seven of Virginia’s 11 points in the third quarter
• Aiyeotan scored eight points on 4-of-5 shooting, grabbing 13 rebounds with five blocked shots
• UVA had 10 turnovers in the first quarter and eight in the second, finishing the game with 32 turnovers. Kentucky scored 32 points off those turnovers

 
Scouting Old Dominion

• The Monarchs have started the season 3-0 for the first time in six years (first time since 2012-13)
• The team is coming off a 76-72 overtime victory on the road at Cincinnati on Monday. Victoria Morris scored 23 points, Ajah Wayne scored 24 points and hauled in 16 rebounds, her second consecutive double-double, and Taylor Edwards added 18 points and seven boards
• Last season, the Monarchs compiled an 8-23 record and fell in the opening round of the Conference USA Tournament
• The players are wearing patches this season in honor of Anne Donovan, the former ODU All-American who died at the age of 56 this past summer
• Head coach Nikki McCray-Penson is in her second season as the head coach of Old Dominion
• McCray-Penson is a two-time Olympic gold medalist as a member of Team USA in 1996 and 2000. Virginia head coach Tina Thompson was a two-time gold medalist with Team USA in 2004 and 2008
• McCray and Thompson were USA Basketball teammates on the national team that won a gold medal at the 1998 FIBA Women’s World Championship

 
Against the Monarchs

• Old Dominion leads the all-time series 19-14
• The last meeting between the two teams was a 69-62 victory by the Monarchs in the first round of the 2015 WNIT
• Virginia has lost the last three meetings with its last victory over ODU coming on Nov. 12, 2006 in Charlottesville.
• UVA’s last win in Norfolk was Nov. 22, 2002. The Monarchs are 12-3 over the Cavaliers in Norfolk including an 88-85 victory in the second round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament

 
On the Horizon

• The Cavaliers return home for the Field Trip Day on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m., when UVA hosts North Carolina A&T
• The lower rows of sections 101-105 will be held for season ticket holders for this game.  As with all games, some seats in these sections will be held for guests of participating teams.  Season ticket holders will receive a ticket for this game but will not have access to their usual season ticket seating location
• Virginia will be hosting the Cavalier Classic Tournament on Thanksgiving weekend. Chattanooga, Central Michigan and Saint Louis will be playing in the tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 24-25. Games are at 2 and 4:30 on Saturday, beginning with UVA hosting Central Michigan in the first game of the day. On Sunday, the games take place at 1 and 3:30 with Virginia hosting Saint Louis in the late game
