Virginia Men Open Season at Navy
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The No.13 Virginia men’s squash team (0-0) will open its 2018-19 campaign on Wednesday (Nov. 7) on the road against No. 16 Navy (2-0). The match at the Halsey International Squash Courts in Annapolis, Md., will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Last Season
• The Cavaliers concluded their inaugural season as a varsity team with a 15-8 record.
• Virginia advanced to the consolation finals of the Hoehn Cup, the College Squash Association’s National Championships, falling to No. 12 Drexel. UVA was edged in the match, 5-4, to finish sixth in the B Division.
• The team finished the year as the No. 14 nationally ranked program in the CSA’s poll.
• Three Cavaliers competed at the CSA Individual Championships with Jarett Odrich (Greenwich, Conn.), William Braff (Locust Valley, N.Y.) and Grayson Bubrosky (New Canaan, Conn.) representing the team. Bubrosky advanced to the consolation finals, falling 3-0 in the match.
The Cavaliers
• Virginia graduated two from last year’s roster, losing captains Mason Blake and Max Novick. Blake led the Cavaliers, playing as the team’s No. 1 in 18 matches. Novick finished the year with a 7-0 record playing in the No. 8 and No. 9 positions.
• Virginia welcomes four incomers, Will Holey (Greenwich, Conn.), Patrick McElroy (Brookline, Mass.), Peter Miller (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Glenn Yates (Cape Town, South Africa) to this year’s roster. Holey is a two-time U.S. silver national champion and three-time New England team champion, while McElroy was named a 2016 and 2017 U.S. Squash All-American honoree and the 2016 U.S. National Junior U17 Boys Champion. Miller ranked in the top five of the U17 and U19 national squash rankings, while Yates was selected for the U19 World South Africa National Squash team in 2016 and 2017 and the Western Province Jarvis/Kaplan team in 2017.
The Midshipmen
• Navy enters the weekend with a 2-0 record after topping Stanford and California in its open weekend. The Midshipmen swept both matches against the club programs 9-0.
• Navy finished the 2017-18 season ranked 15th in the CSA poll.
• Jack Lentz leads Navy with a 2-0 record playing the top position in the team’s ladder.
Against Navy
• This is the first meeting between the two teams since Virginia became a varsity program in 2017.
• The two teams last meet in 2016 with the Midshipmen edging the Cavaliers in a 5-4 victory. Henry Woodworth (Weston, Mass.), Killian Bubrosky (New Canaan, Conn.) and Harrison Kapp (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded wins in the match playing at the No. 4, No. 6 and No. 9 positions, respectively. Former Cavalier Blake captured the fourth point for UVA.
