CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Two Virginia women’s tennis players continue play at the NCAA Tennis Championships beginning on Wednesday (May 23) as sophomore Rosie Johanson (Vancouver, British Columbia) and junior Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine) begin competition at the NCAA Women’s Singles and Doubles Championships.

Matches will be played at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Johanson will take the court at 9:30 a.m. against Stacey Fung of Washington in her first-round matchup on Wednesday. Fung is ranked No. 16 in the latest ITA singles rankings and is seeded in the group of 9-16 players at the championship.

Johanson and Kelley will play for the first time in doubles on Thursday with the time to be determined. The Virginia tandem will face the pairing of Veronica Miroshnichenko and Eva Marie Voracek from Loyola Marymount. The duo of Miroshnichenko and Voracek is ranked No. 18 in the latest ITA doubles rankings.

JOHANSON IN SINGLES COMPETITION
Johanson, who is currently ranked a career-high No. 32 in the ITA singles rankings, earned a berth to the NCAA Singles Championship after posting a 22-12 record this season in singles. She earned All-ACC first team honors, marking the second consecutive season for Johanson to earn All-ACC recognition. It is her first appearance in the NCAA Singles Championships. She is the seventh player in program history to earn a berth in the singles and doubles championship in the same season.

Her opponent, Stacey Fung, went 26-4 on the season, including an 18-1 mark in dual matches on the way to All-PAC 12 honors.

JOHANSON AND KELLEY IN DOUBLES ACTION
As a duo, Johanson and Kelley hold a 27-10 record, won the ITA Atlantic Regional and advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITA National Fall Championship. The tandem is ranked No. 16 in the latest ITA doubles rankings.

It is the second time for Kelley to compete in the NCAA Doubles Championships as she advanced to the round of 16 with doubles partner Danielle Collins in 2016.

Their first-round opponent, the duo of Miroshnichenko and Voracek, went 22-7 on the year in doubles competition that includes a 15-5 mark in dual play. The tandem advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA Fall National Championships.
