2018 All-America Scholars

Charlottesville, Va. –Virginia men’s golfers Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) and Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) have been recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America for academic excellence by being named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for their performance in the classroom.
 
Both players had previously been named to the ACC All-Academic Team and the ACC Honor Roll.
 
It marked the second consecutive season Walker received the honor. He graduated from UVA last spring with a degree in economics. A PING All-East Region selection, Walker finished third at the 2018 ACC Championships and was second on the team with a 71.74 stroke average. 
 
The 2018 ACC Individual Champion, Walsh, a rising senior at Virginia, led the Cavaliers in stroke average last season at 70.71. Walsh took medalist honors at the ACC Championships by shooting a tournament-record 16-under 200 at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C. It was the first collegiate win of his career. During the 2017-18 season he had six top-10 finishes and led UVA with 23 rounds under par. Walsh was UVA’s top finisher in eight of 12 tournaments. 
 
A total of 265 players in Division I, 126 in Division II and 23 in NAIA earned the honor. Additionally, 63 honorees were added to the previously released Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars. 
 
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
