CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field team had 11 student-athletes named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s All-Academic team, as announced by the organization on Thursday (July 26).

Jake Dixon (Falmouth, Maine), Jack Lint (Westerville, Ohio), Mike Marsella (Hope Valley, R.I.), Nace Plesko (Ljubljana, Slovenia), Chase Weaverling (Darnestown, Md.) and Jordan Willis (Williamsburg, Va.) were honored from the men’s team, while Katie Freix (Chantilly, Va.), Brittany Jones (Bloomfield, Conn.), Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.), Emily Mulhern (Ijamsville, Md.) and Holly Sullivan (Chester Springs, Pa.) earned the accolade from the women’s team.

The group of 11 Cavaliers earned six All-ACC honors over the indoor and outdoor season. Marsella advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 1500m run, earning second-team All-America honors with an 11th-place finish.
Additionally, the men’s and women’s programs were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA Track and Field All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of two athletic standards. For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

For a team to qualify, a squad must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 during the most recent grading period.
