CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –Sophomore midfielder Taryn Torres (Frisco, Texas) has been named a preseason All-ACC selection in a vote of the league coaches, the league office announced on Monday. Virginia was picked to finish third in the league standings in the vote by the coaches and received two first-place votes.

Torres is the returning leader in goals scored from a year ago after tallying eight goals on the season on the way to All-ACC Third Team and All-Freshman honors. She also was named an All-Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches and a member of the Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Best XI team.

Torres scored eight goals with one assist for a total of 17 points last season, the second most on the team. She hit two game-winning goals, lifting the Cavaliers to victory over Liberty and Miami. Torres took 32 total shots on the season with 16 of them on frame. Her one assist came on the game-winning goal at Syracuse.

Virginia opens the 2018 season at home on Friday, Aug. 17, against Colgate. Kick is set for 7 p.m.
