CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.– Virginia safety Juan Thornhill has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Back of the Week for games played through Sept. 9. This is the second career weekly accolade for Thornhill. He also earned the award in 2016 after the Duke game.

Thornhill (Altavista, Va.) had several key plays in UVA’s 20-16 loss at Indiana.  He finished the game with seven tackles, including five solo stops. Thornhill blocked a PAT in the first quarter and returned it for a two-point conversion. Thornhill later intercepted a Hoosier pass in the third quarter.

Thornhill is the second Cavalier to earn ACC weekly honors in 2018. Jordan Ellis was named ACC Running Back of the Week last week.
