CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – In the first ever collegiate soccer game at Audi Field, No. 7 Virginia (1-0) will take on Maryland (0-1-1) in a neutral site contest on Monday (Sept. 3) at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available for the match in Washington, D.C.
 
Game Coverage: Monday’s game will not be streamed but fans can get in-game updates on the match’s live stats feed on VirginiaSports.com and on the men’s soccer official twitter feed (@UVAMenSoccer).
 
Tickets: Fans can urchase discounted tickets to the UMD/UVA soccer match. Tickets will be located on the Virginia side. Club (C1-C9) and Field (F1-F18) sections are All-Inclusive with food, beer and wine included with ticket. The promo code is WAHOOS.

Audi Field Clear Bag Policy: Only clear bags of a specific size will be allowed into Audi Field—no exceptions.  Bags allowed into Audi Field include:
 
• ONE clear, plastic bag no larger than 12″ by 6″ by 12″
• ONE clear, gallon freezer bag (Ziploc or similar brand)
• ONE clutch bag or small purse no larger than 6.5″ by 4.5″ (fits in the palm of a hand)

Match Notes
• The non-conference match against Maryland will be the first college game at Audi Field.
• Virginia will play in its first game since opening night on Aug.24, a nine-day layoff.
• The Cavaliers will play their first regular season neutral site match since 2012 when they opened the season with a 2-1 loss to Georgetown in a Germantown, Md.
• Under Head Coach George Gelnovatch, the Cavaliers are 43-24-10 in neutral site games.
 
Audi Field
• Audi Field, the new home of D.C. United, officially opened on July 9, 2018 with a match against the Vancouver Whitecaps occurring on July 14, 2018. United prevailed, 3-1 in front of a sellout crowd of 20,504 people.
• Virginia and Maryland will play the first ever collegiate soccer match at the new stadium.
• A total of eight MLS matches will have been played at Audi Field before Monday’s college match.
 
DC United Connection
• Current DC United Head Coach, Ben Olsen, played for the Cavaliers from 1995-97 and was teammates with current UVA Associate Head Coach, Matt Chulis.
• Over the course of his UVA career, Olsen accumulated 109 points (34 g, 41 a), the seventh most in program history. His 41 career assists are the third most of any Cavalier.
• Olsen went on to play for D.C. United from 1998-2009 and also was a member of the U.S. Olympic Team in 2000.
• A total of nine Cavaliers have been drafted by D.C. United, including No. 1 overall pick of the 2003 draft, Alecko Eskandarian.
 
Rivalry Renewed
• Virginia and Maryland will meet for the 80th time in a series history that dates back to 1941, the first year of soccer at Virginia.
• The Terps lead the overall series 41-29-9 and are unbeaten in their last five matches (4-0-1) against UVA.
• In his 23rd season, Head Coach George Gelnovatch is 11-16-5 against Maryland.
• Before exiting the ACC for the Big Ten, Maryland and Virginia played three times in 2013, including in the College Cup Semifinals in Chester, Pa. The Terps edged Virginia 2-1, scoring the first two goals and holding off a late Virginia charge.
• The last meeting in the series came on Nov. 22, 2015, a 1-0 Maryland win in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
Scouting Maryland
• The Terps are coming off a 0-0 draw against No. 10 Stanford in College Park on Friday. Maryland kept the defending national champions off the scoreboard for the first time since Sept. 23, 2017, a span of 16 games.
• Maryland opened up the year at Washington, suffering a 2-0 loss.
• Last year, Maryland was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, falling in penalty kicks against Albany. The Terps finished 2017 with a 10-5-4 record, including a 5-1-2 mark in conference play.
