Virginia remained in the top-10 of this week’s Penn Monto/NFHCA rankings and will be playing its third top-10 match-up of the season on Friday. The Cavaliers fell 1-0 at then-ranked No. 6 Penn State on the season’s opening weekend and topped then-No. 10 Syracuse 2-1 in double overtime two weeks ago. Virginia will play two more top-10 opponents next week, No. 1 UNC on Wednesday (Sept. 26) and No. 7 Louisville on Saturday (Sept. 29).

The Cavaliers come into the week after being edged 3-2 at No. 20 Liberty on Sunday. UVA held a 2-0 lead at halftime, but the Flames tied the game midway through the second period and scored the game-winner with 1:45 remaining in regulation. Sophomore Makayla Gallen (Glen Mills, Pa.) scored her third goal of the season.

Freshman Grace Wallis (Blue Bell, Pa.) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season at Liberty. Wallis also leads the team in points (12) and assists (4), ranking fourth in the ACC in points per game. She has scored a goal or had an assist in five of UVA’s six games this season. She has scored her four goals on just eight shots.

Boston College and Northeastern played one another on Tuesday, with BC picking up the 2-1 victory in overtime. The Huskies have also played Wake Forest this season in another one-goal game, falling 4-3.

Boston College is led by Fusine Goveart, who has scored four goals this season. Frederique Haverhals is sixth in the ACC in shots per game (2.71). The Eagles are averaging 2.57 goals per game while allowing 1.57 per contest.

Northeastern was tabbed to finish fourth in the preseason Colonial Athletic Association poll. June Curry-Lindahl leads the team with 12 points on five goals with two assists.

Virginia leads the all-time series against BC 13-8 and has won the last three meetings. Virginia is 4-1 all-time against Northeastern but fell in the last meeting in a neutral-site contest in 2012. This is the Cavaliers’ second-ever trip to Northeastern, and the first time playing there since 1996.
