Hoos in Second Place When Play Suspended at Inverness Intercollegiate
Toledo, Ohio. – The No. 24 Virginia men’s golf team was in second place when play was suspended Monday afternoon at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio. The Cavaliers stood at 13-over par, and trailed tournament leader Tennessee by 10 shots, when play was suspended mid-way through the second round of due to heavy rain.
Virginia shot 9-over 293 during Monday morning’s first round of competition. That had UVA tied for third place, eight shots behind the Volunteers. The Cavaliers were led in the first round by junior Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.), who shot 1-under 70. He finished the opening round in fourth place. Senior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) was in seventh place at even par 71.
Freshman David Morgan (Naples, Fla.) was 23rd after the first 18 holes at 3-over 74. Sophomore WeiWei Gao (Cebu City, Philippines) was 51st at 78 and junior Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) was in 70th place at 81. Sophomore Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.), who is competing as an individual, was in 16th place after shooting 73.
The second round will restart Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and the final round will immediately follow.
