No. 15 Virginia Hosts No. 8 Louisville on Saturday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 15 Virginia field hockey team (4-5, 1-2 ACC) hosts No. 8 Louisville (7-3, 1-2 ACC) on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. at Turf Field in Charlottesville, Va.
Admission is free for all of Virginia’s regular-season home field hockey games.
The game will stream on ACC Network Extra, which is available to authenticated subscribers of ESPN3 through WatchESPN and the ESPN app. Fans can also keep up with the action through live stats linked at VirginiaSports.com.
This will be the Cavaliers’ fifth match this season against a top-10 team. It will also be the second of three-straight games against top-10 teams, after falling 3-0 at North Carolina on Wednesday (Sept. 26). UVA travels to No. 4 Duke next Friday (Oct. 5). The Cavaliers are ranked No. 15 in this week’s Penn Monto/NFHCA poll.
The Cavaliers are coming off a 3-0 loss to the Tar Heels on Wednesday in Chapel Hill. The game was a defensive battle, with the two teams taking a combined 13 shots. North Carolina had seven shots, six of which were on goal. Virginia took six shots, with three on target.
Freshman Grace Wallis (Blue Bell, Pa.) leads the team in points (13), goals (4) and assists (5). Sophomore Makayla Gallen (Glen Mills, Pa.) has seven points with three goals and an assist. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Carrera Lucas (Brooklandville, Md.) has a 1.32 goals-against average and a .800 save percentage.
Louisville has won four of its last five games, including a 4-0 victory at Appalachian State last Sunday (Sept. 23). The Cardinals dropped their last conference match, 4-2, at Wake Forest last Friday (Sept. 21). Erica Cooper leads the Cardinals with 12 points and a team-high six goals. Cooper has scored her six goals on eight shots.
Virginia is 7-2 all-time against Louisville. The last meeting was a 2-1 victory for the Cavaliers in Louisville that clinched the 2017 regular-season ACC title for UVA.
Virginia will be on the road next Friday (Oct. 5), playing at Duke before returning home to host Miami (Ohio) on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. at Turf Field.
