Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia men’s golf team will start its 2018-18 season this weekend at the 30th annual Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga. The three-day, 54-hole tournament runs Friday through Sunday at the par 72, 7,012-yard The Farm Golf Club.
 
UVA won the tournament in 2016, shooting 31-under 833. Virginia’s 54-hole total broke the event’s scoring record by eight shots. Last year the Cavaliers were 14th.
 
The 15-team field includes seven teams the played in last year’s NCAA Championships and includes Alabama, Auburn, California, Chattanooga, Clemson, Dalton State, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, LSU, North Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Colorado State and the Hoos. UVA is paired with South Carolina and Tennessee during the opening round. Those three teams are slated to tee off starting at 9:17 a.m. from the 10th tee.

UVA’s season-opening lineup features senior All-American Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.), junior Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C), sophomore Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg), sophomore WeiWei Gao (Cebu City, Phillipines) and freshman David Morgan (Naples, Fla.).
