CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Freshman Abbey Green (Bethesda, Md.) was named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Cross Country All-Academic Team, the organization announced on Thursday (Feb. 14). In addition to Green, the men’s and women’s programs were recognized for their academic achievement.

Green paced the Cavaliers during the fall, advancing to the NCAA Championships as an individual where she finished 95th. She earned the automatic berth after recording the fourth-fastest time by an individual not on an advancing team at the Southeast Regional Championships. In addition to qualifying for the national meet, Green earned All-Southeast Region honors with her seventh-place finish.

The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams were recognized for their athletic and academic achievement during the fall semester. The men’s team finished the fall with a 3.04 GPA, while the women recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.23.

In order for a student-athlete to qualify for the honor, they must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finished in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet.

For a team to qualify, a squad must have at least five runners at an NCAA Division I regional meet and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 during the most recent grading period.
