CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s tennis senior Carl Soderlund (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Brandon Nakashima (San Diego, Calif.) will both be playing in the main draw of this week’s Charlottesville Men’s Pro Challenger, being held Oct. 28 through Nov. 3 at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.
 
Söderlund and Nakashima were both awarded wild card’s into the tournament’s main singles draw. Nakashima, who is currently ranked No. 489 in the ATP world rankings, will face No. 227 Ernesto Escobedo in the first round. Söderlund, who is currently the top-ranked player in the ITA collegiate singles rankings, will take on Ryan Peniston, who has an ATP ranking of No. 377, in his first match.
 
Additionally, four UVA alums will be playing in the singles main draw. Thai-Son Kwiatkowski is the No. 13 seed in the tournament, will have a bye in the first round. Kwiatkowski has cracked the top-200 of the ATP singles rankings, currently sitting at No. 197. Last year, Kwiatkowski advanced to the semifinals of this tournament, playing on his former home court. JC Aragone (ATP 296), Alexander Ritschard (ATP 391) and Ryan Shane (ATP 401) will all have first-round matches.
 
First-round matches take place on Monday and Tuesday at the indoor courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. Please check Twitter or the tournament’s Facebook page for daily order of play. Live streaming and live scoring will be available for the tournament through the ATP’s website (ATPTour.com).
