CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia defensive back De’Vante Cross has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Back of the Week for games played through Nov. 24. This is the first weekly award of Cross’ career.

Cross (Jr., Allentown, Pa.) came up with a key defensive play to break open a close game in UVA’s 55-27 win vs. Liberty. The Flames held a 14-10 second quarter lead and had the ball at the UVA 38-yard line when Cross picked off a deep pass and returned it 52 yards to the Liberty 42-yard line that set up UVA’s go-ahead touchdown. The Hoos never trailed again. Cross finished the game with two interceptions (both inside the 10-yard line) and totaled 87 yards on his two returns. Cross entered the game with one career interception, which came against Liberty last season. Cross’ first interceptions of the game ended Liberty QB Buckshot Calvert’s string of consecutive pass attempts without an interception at 295 (a Liberty record). Calvert entered the game with the nation’s longest pass streak without a pick and had thrown just three this year prior to facing the Cavaliers.
