No. 4 Virginia Downs No. 5 Duke in ACC Quarterfinals
NEWTON, Mass. – The No. 4 Virginia field hockey team (13-7, 1-5) defeated No. 5 Duke (16-3, 4-2) by a score of 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championships on Thursday (Nov. 7) at Boston College's Newton Field Hockey Complex in Newton, Mass.

NEWTON, Mass. – The No. 4 Virginia field hockey team (16-3, 4-2) defeated No. 5 Duke (13-7, 1-5) by a score of 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championships on Thursday (Nov. 7) at Boston College’s Newton Field Hockey Complex in Newton, Mass.
With the win over sixth-seeded Duke, third-seeded Virginia advances to Friday’s semifinal against second-seeded and ninth-ranked Boston College at 3:30 p.m.
Junior Rachel Robinson (Mount Joy, Pa.) and freshman Cato Geusgens (Wassenaar, Netherlands) scored Virginia’s two goals in the victory against the Blue Devils.
Robinson put the Cavaliers on the score board with 5:04 remaining the first quarter, firing a penalty shot to the left of goalie. Geusgens netted Virginia’s second goal off a penalty corner with 6:25 left to play in the third quarter. She hit a low shot into the right corner of the cage, out of reach of Duke’s keeper. She was assisted by sophomore midfielder Annie McDonough (Kennett Square, Pa.) and senior Anzel Viljoen (Matamata, New Zealand).
Duke scored its lone goal with 3:29 left in the third quarter as Haley Schleicher took advantage of a penalty corner, putting the ball in the back of the net. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Hausheer (West Windsor, N.J.) recorded six saves in the match.

• With tonight’s win, Virginia has won eight consecutive games
