CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Meghan McCool (Glenside, Pa.), a senior forward on the Virginia women’s soccer team, has been named as an All-America selection by the United Soccer Coaches it was announced at the College Cup banquet in San Jose, Calif., on Thursday night (Dec. 5).

McCool earned third-team All-America honors and is the 25th player in program history to earn All-America honors from the coaches association. It is the 16th time in the last 17 seasons a Cavalier has been recognized with All-America status. She was an All-Region first team selection as well to become eligible for All-America honors. McCool was one of five players to earn All-Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches this season. 

Earlier on Thursday, McCool was also named an Academic All-America selection as the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released their annual academic honor. The senior was a second-team Academic All-America selection.  

McCool tied for the team lead in goals with 15 this season, including six game-winning goals, as she tallied 33 points on her way to All-ACC first team honors. The senior hit the golden goal for Virginia in the program’s first win at No. 5 Florida State since the 2008 season. Four of her game-winning goals came against nationally-ranked opponents. With the College Cup remaining, she is tied with teammate Diana Ordonez (Prosper, Texas) as the ACC leader in goals scored and tied for the league lead in game-winning goals.

The Cavaliers finished the season with a 17-2-3 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 32nd time in program history with its 26th consecutive appearance this season. The 32 overall appearances are second-most all-time and the 26 consecutive appearances is the second longest active streak nationally. Virginia spent eight weeks at the top of the rankings throughout the course of the season.
