NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 9 Virginia men’s squash team (16-6) fell in the semifinals at the Hoehn Cup, the B Division of the College Squash Association Team Championships, on Saturday (Feb. 16), dropping the match 5-4 to No. 13 Drexel (7-9) at the Brady Squash Center.

Although the Cavaliers opened the day with a 3-0 loss in position three, Virginia rallied to win the next three positions. Senior Henry Woodworth (Weston, Mass.) recorded the first Cavalier point with an 11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 11-3 victory against Ryan Leslie in position nine. Freshman Glenn Yates (Cape Town, South Africa) followed with an 11-8, 11-6, 7-11, 6-11, 11-7 win in position six against Noel Heaton as sophomore Andrew Braff (Locust Valley, N.Y.) defeated Nathaniel Chan 11-7, 11-8, 11-4 in position eight.

Drexel captured wins in positions two and five, respectively, but senior Jarett Odrich (Greenwich, Conn.) maintained UVA’s lead with a 7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9 victory against Royston Raymond in position seven.

Odrich’s point would be the last for the Cavaliers, however, as the Dragons topped positions one and four, respectively, to take the win.

Virginia will close action at the Hoehn Cup tomorrow, competing against No. 11 St. Lawrence (6-8) in the third-place match at 11 a.m. The matchup will be the first for the two teams since Virginia became a varsity program at UVA in 2017.
