ORLANDO, Fla. –  The No. 4 Virginia men’s tennis team (11-2) finished off its Florida road trip with a 4-1 victory over #49 UCF (8-7) on Tuesday (March 12) at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
 
The Cavaliers won the doubles point and picked up victories on singles courts two through four. Senior Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) clinched the victory for the Cavaliers with a win on court three.
 
In doubles, senior Aswin Lizen (Douglas, Isle of Man) and sophomore Gianni Ross (Chicago, Ill.) set the tone early by picking up a 6-1 victory on doubles court three. Wiersholm and freshman Brandon Nakashima (San Diego, Calif.) clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court two.
 
In singles, UCF tied the match, 1-1 with a straight-set win by Manoel Alencar on court six. Junior Carl Soderlund (Stockholm, Sweden) rebounded on court two after dropping his first set, 6-2, to Alan Rubio by winning 6-0, 6-3 in the final two sets to give UVA a 2-1 advantage. Ross edged Trey Hilderbrand, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 7-5 on court four to put UVA up 3-1. Wiersholm downed Bogdan Pavel, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to end the match.
 
The Cavaliers return to conference play next weekend, traveling to face No. 35 NC State on Friday, March 15 at 5 p.m., before heading to Winston-Salem, N.C. to take on No. 2 Wake Forest.
