Higuey, La Romana, Dominican Republic – UVA saw three players finish in the top-10 on the leaderboard during the first day of play at the North Carolina Classic to stand second after 36 holes of play. The Cavaliers posted rounds of 4-under 284 and 1-under 287 at the Teeth of the Dog Course in Higuey, La Romana of the Dominican Republic. Wake Forest leads the 15-team field at 567, four shots head of Virginia.
 
Senior Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) led UVA with rounds of 6-under 66 and 1-over 73 to finish the day in third place at 5-under 139. Her opening round tied the school record for the lowest 18-hole score recorded by a UVA senior and was just one stroke off the school record for a single round. It was her best 18-hole round as a collegiate.
 
Senior Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) posted rounds of 71 and 70 to finish one place behind Redding on the leaderboard at 3-under 141. Sophomore Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) rounded out UVA’s top-10 finishers by ending the day in ninth place at 1-under 143. She shot 71 and 72.
 
Senior Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) was in 28th place at 4-over 148. She posted scores of 76 and 72. Junior Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) is in 67th place at 158.
 
Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho leads stroke play at 9-under 135.
