RADFORD, Va. – Three home runs helped Radford (12-18) down Virginia (16-14) 6-4 on Tuesday night (March 26) at Radford Softball Stadium.
 
Allyson Frei (Branchville, N.J.) took the loss for Virginia, allowing five runs on four hits. She issued four walks in her 2 1/3 innings.
 
Jessie Marvin (6-8) tossed six innings for Radford to earn the win. Kayla Huffman earned the save for the Highlanders.
 
KEY INNING
Two walks to open the game set the table for Radford and Destiny Freeman gave the Highlanders a 3-0 lead with her first-inning home run. The inning started with a 3-2 walk and another free pass put two aboard with no outs. Freeman struck her shot to right field for Radford’s first of three homers in the game.

TOUCHING HOME
• Freeman jumped a 3-1 offering in the bottom of the first for a three-run home run to put Radford ahead early.
• Lindsay Hunter added another run for the Highlanders with a solo home run in the second.
• Freeman scored on a wild pitch in the fifth, building the Radford lead to 5-0.
• Erika Osherow (Darien, Conn.) singled to spark the fourth for Virginia. A single from Arizona Ritchie (Stafford, Va.) scored one and a sharply hit grounder from Ashlee Davis (Gilbert, Ariz.) plated a second run.
• Hayley Busby (Phoenix, Ariz.) lifted a solo home run in the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-3.
• Virginia pulled within a run in the sixth on doubles from Ritchie and Tori Gilbert (Mechanicsville, Va.).
• Radford answered back with a solo home run from Hunter Mundy to make it 6-4 Highlanders heading to the seventh.

ON THE LINES
• Ritchie went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Virginia.
• Busby’s home run was the sixth of the season for the sophomore.
• Osherow added a 2-for-3 performance for her sixth multi-hit game of the year.
• Clare Zureich (Cary, N.C.) worked 3 2/3 innings in relief and allowed just a single run on two hits while striking out six.
