Raleigh Relays | Fred Hardy Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The Virginia men’s track and field team closed the opening day of the Fred Hardy Invitational at the Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va., in addition to concluding its time at the Raleigh Relays at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility in Raleigh, N.C., on Friday (March 29).

Junior Lachlan Cook (Brisbane, Australia) led the team at the Raleigh Relays, running a personal-best time of 29:10.03 in the invitational race for the 10000m run. Cook dropped six seconds off his previous career-best time of 29:16.32 from 2018 to finish 15th in the event and capture the fifth-fastest time in program history.
 
In addition to Cook, redshirt junior Alex Corbett (Burke, Va.) recorded a career-best time in 10000m Invite to finish 19th with a time of 29:18.99. His time ranks ninth in UVA history.
 
In the 5000m run, redshirt junior Matthew Novak (Glen Allen, Va.) led the team with a career-best time of 14:10.48. He finished 30th in the event and 19th among collegiate athletes.
 
“Our night finished off well with controlled runs from Lachlan and Alex in the 10k,” assistant track and field coach Jason Dunn said. “Both ran personal bests and looked very good. We had several personal bests from our guys in the 5k tonight as well, but there is still a lot we can improve upon in the coming weeks.”
 
Fred Hardy Invitational
 
Freshman Colin Duignan (Bronxville, N.Y.) opened competition at the Fred Hardy Invitational as the lone Cavalier to compete on the men’s side of the competition.
 
Competing the pole vault, the freshman cleared a height of 4.40m (14’5.25″) with his first attempt at the mark. Duignan finished third overall in the competition.
 
Virginia will conclude the Fred Hardy Invitational tomorrow as events in Richmond begin at 9 a.m.
