Fred Hardy Invitational

RICHMOND, Va. –  The Virginia women’s track and field team concluded the Fred Hardy Invitational on Saturday (March 30) at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility in Richmond, Va.

“We had a few (athletes) that had some breakouts this weekend and all our ladies continue to learn and grow from their performances,” director of track and field Bryan Fetzer said. “It’s exciting to see the confidence increase. It is going to be a special year.”

Junior Anna Jefferson (Warren, Mich.) swept the 100m and 200m dash during the day’s events. Her time of 23.65 in the 200m dash was a career-best, ranking sixth all-time in UVA history, while her performance of 11.86 in the 100m was a season-best.

Junior Alexis Woodley (Chesapeake, Va.) topped the 100m hurdles, racing to the finish line with a time of 13.98.

Redshirt senior Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) led the Cavaliers in the field events, jumping a season best 5.75m (18’10.5″) to win the long jump.

In the 400m dash, junior Andrenette Knight (Morant Bay, Jamaica) finished second with a time of 55.54.

“We are really excited to be at home from this point until NCAAs,” Fetzer said. “There are so many advantages and positives. We look forward to taking advantage of all of them over the coming weeks.”

The meet was the last regular season competition on the road for the Cavaliers, who are ranked 29th in the USTFCCCA preseason poll. Virginia will close the remainder of the season at home, beginning with a home meet against Maryland, Pitt and West Virginia on April 6.
