CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –The No. 25 Virginia women’s tennis team (10-3, 4-2 ACC) returns home for a lone ACC contest this week, hosting No. 1 North Carolina (17-1, 5-0 ACC) in a 3 p.m. match at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

VIRGINIA IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Cavaliers remained in the top 25 nationally in this week’s edition of the Oracle/ITA Women’s Tennis Rankings following a split weekend last week that saw Virginia pick up a road win at Clemson before falling on Sunday at then No. 33 Wake Forest. The Cavaliers have been ranked in the top 25 each week this season.

CAVALIERS IN THE INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
Virginia is represented in the individual rankings with senior Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine) coming in at No. 33 in singles. She and freshman Sofia Munera (Pereira, Colombia) are the No. 15 doubles tandem in the most recent individual rankings released last week. Kelley also comes in as part of the No. 56 pairing with junior Hunter Bleser (New Braunfels, Texas). Also in the doubles rankings is the tandem of junior Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) and freshman Amber O’Dell (New Milford, N.J.) at No. 58 in the polls.

THE SERIES WITH NORTH CAROLINA
The Cavaliers and Tar Heels have faced each other 57 times in the history of the series with North Carolina holding a 42-15 lead in the meetings. The Tar Heels have won two straight in the series with the last Cavalier victory coming in the 2016 NCAA Tournament when Virginia defeated then third-ranked North Carolina by a score of 4-2 in the Sweet 16.

A LOOK AT THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina is coming off a 4-1 victory over No. 3 Duke in an ACC contest on Wednesday (March 6). The nation’s top-ranked team grabbed the doubles point and singles wins on courts three, four and five to secure the victory. North Carolina has four players ranked in the top 20 nationally in singles, led by fifth-ranked Makenna Jones and sixth-ranked Alexa Graham at the top two spots in the lineup. The Tar Heels also feature two doubles teams in the top 10 nationally. North Carolina is currently on an eight-match win streak with the only loss of the season coming to then No. 5 Georgia in the finals of the ITA National Team Indoors Championships.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAVALIERS
Virginia will return to the road with a non-conference matchup at No. 22 Michigan on Wednesday, March 13. The match is set for a 2 p.m. ET first serve.
