Virginia Hosts Midweek Matchup against Old Dominion

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia (16-12) will be home on Tuesday (April 2) to host Old Dominion (16-11) at Disharoon Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the game will air live on both ACC Network Extra and WINA (98.9 FM/1070 AM).

TICKET INFORMATION
Fans can purchase tickets at a discounted rate in advance by going online to VirginiaSports.com/Tickets. For all regular season home games, available reserved single-game tickets can be purchased in advance for $8 online or via mobile devices. Tickets are $10 at the sport-specific ticket office on game day. General admission single-game tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the sport-specific ticket office locations on game day.
PROMOTIONS
Tuesday: Popcorn at the Disharoon Park concession stands will be $2 throughout the game as part of a season-long $2 Tuesday promotion. The next $2 Tuesday will be on April 16 against Radford.

Leading Off
• Virginia and Old Dominion have met in each six seasons and every year at Disharoon Park since 2013.
• Virginia has won three-straight and improved to 6-2 overall in midweek games after a pair of wins last week.
• Virginia is 24-6 at home and 42-8 overall against non-conference opponents over the past two seasons.
• Old Dominion is Virginia’s the sixth commonwealth opponent this season (3-2 overall).
• Head coach Brian O’Connor is 8-7 against the Monarchs in his tenure.
Against ODU
• Old Dominion owns a 33-29-2 advantage in the series that was first played in 1965.
• Virginia has taken three-straight meetings against the Monarchs including 4-0 shutout last year at Disharoon Park.
• Three of the last four meetings have taken place in Charlottesville.
• The pitching staffs of the two teams combined to plunk eight batters (UVA-5, ODU-3) in last year’s game. Five Cavalier pitchers combined for a five-hit shutout and Alex Tappen drove in a pair of first inning runs.
Team Superlatives
• After the weekend, Virginia owns the second highest batting average (.295) in the ACC and rank 30th in the country. Its 281 hits are 29th most in Division I college baseball.
• The Cavaliers did not commit an error in three games at NC State this past weekend and up their fielding percentage to .980, the second-highest in the ACC and 15th highest in the country. It marked the second time this season Virginia has put fourth three-straight errorless games.
• As a team, Virginia has struck out 179 times, the fewest of any team in the ACC.
• The Virginia pitching staff has combined for three shutouts, tied for the third most in ACC. A total of 47 schools have recorded three or more shutouts this season.
Consistency from the Start
• Freshman Zack Gelof has hit safely in 17-straight games, tied with Ryan Zimmerman for the sixth-longest hit streak since 2000 and the longest by any Cavalier freshman in 19 years.
• Gelof ha reached base in all 28 games this season, using a hit in 24 of those contests.
• Gelof is tied for the team lead in RBI (23) and is second on the club with 38 hits.
• He singled in the eighth inning against Richmond on Wednesday (March 27) to prolong both streaks. It marked the fifth time he’s used his final turn at the plate to extend his reached base streak alive and the third time to keep the hit streak going.
• Since 2000, he and Joe McCarthy (36 games) are the only two Virginia freshmen to reach base in the first 28 games of their career. The reached base streak is the second longest of any UVA freshman.
Player Notes
• Tanner Morris reached base 10 times in the NC State series and went 7-for-11 with three runs scored, three walks a home run and an RBI. His home run in game three was his fourth of the season, tying him for the team lead.
• Morris leads the team with a .355 batting average and 12 doubles. Amongst his ACC cohorts, Morris is tied for the sixth most two-baggers. He has five, three-hit games this season, the most on the team.
• Cameron Simmons has been the team’s top hitter over the past 10 games, posting a .389 batting average (14-for-36) with four doubles a home run and 10 RBI. He has reached base safely in 14-straight games.
• Sophomore Brendan Rivoli had a hit in all three games of the NC State series, including his 12th multi-hit game in Friday’s opener, tied with Simmons for the most on the team. Rivoli is ranked 13th in the aCC in batting (.346).
• Freshman Nic Kent batted second in all three games over the weekend, the fourth total time in the two-hole. Kent has reached base safely in eight-straight games.
• Righthander Blake Bales will get his second start on the mound in as many weeks for the Cavaliers. In his first career start last weekend against Richmond, he allowed one run on one hit in two innings. He made a relief appearance in the middle game against NC State, pitching a scoreless eighth inning.
Looking Ahead
• The lone midweek home game is the precursor to a three-game road ACC series at Notre Dame this weekend (April 5-7).
• The series will be part of a four-game road swing that concludes on Tuesday at James Madison (April 9).
• Virginia begins a nine-game home stand, the second longest stint in Charlottesville of the season on April 10 against Norfolk State.
