Virginia Places Four on the 2019 Men’s Lacrosse All-ACC Team
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia placed four student-athletes on the 2019 men’s lacrosse All-Atlantic Coast Conference team, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. Midfielder Dox Aitken, midfielder Ryan Conrad, attackman Michael Kraus and attackman Matt Moore all earned All-ACC accolades. UVA’s four honorees on the All-ACC team are the most since 2009 when four Cavaliers were also honored.
The team is determined by a vote of the league’s five head coaches. The accolade is the third career nod for Kraus, who was the only freshman on the squad in 2017 and was one of five sophomores that earned the honor in 2018. Kraus was also named the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2017. The honor is the second of Aitken’s career, who was also on the squad in 2018. Conrad earned his second All-ACC accolade after being named to the all-league team in 2017. The honor for Moore is the first of his career and he is one of three underclassmen on the All-ACC team this season. Moore was named the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2018.
Aitken (Jr., Villanova, Pa.) has 31 goals and with 99 career goals, ranks No. 1 all-time at UVA in career goals by a midfielder. He needs two points to break the career record for points by a UVA midfielder. With 128 career points, Aitken is tied with Brian Carroll and trails only Shamel Bratton (129) in the UVA annals. Aitken’s 31 goals this year are tied for No. 7 on UVA’s single-season ledger for goals by a midfielder.
Conrad (Sr., Timonium, Md.) is No. 2 on the team with 64 ground balls, which also leads the nation in ground balls by all offensive players (attack and non-FOGO midfielders). Running on the first midfield, Conrad has 14 goals, 17 assists and 31 points. With 34 career assists, Conrad is tied for No. 7 in the UVA record book for assists by a midfielder.
Kraus (Jr., New Canaan, Conn.) is No. 1 in the ACC in points (4.64) and assists (2.00), while ranking No. 2 in goals (2.64). He is No. 15 in the nation in points per game and No. 22 in assists per game. Kraus became the 16th Cavalier in program history to record 100 career goals and he was the third-fasted Cavalier to the mark. Kraus has 29 goals and 22 assists in 11 games, missing three win an injury.
Moore (So., Garnet Valley, Pa.) leads UVA with 25 assists and 59 points. He is No. 2 in the ACC in assists (1.79), points (4.21) and No. 5 in goals (2.43). Moore is No. 31 in the nation in points per game. Moore is the only Cavalier to record at least one goal in all 14 games of 2019. His current streak of 15 games with at least one goal ranks No. 13 in the nation among active streaks.
The ACC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year along with Freshman and Coach of the Year will be announced after the conclusion of the ACC Championship.
Virginia returns to action on Saturday afternoon in the semifinal round of the ACC Championship. No. 1 seeded UVA will play the winner of the first round game between No. 4 seed Syracuse and No. 5 seed North Carolina, which is being played on Thursday night in Chapel Hill, N.C. The ACC first round and semifinal round games will be played at UNC Lacrosse Stadium in Chapel Hill. UVA’s semifinal game will be broadcast on ESPNU at 2 p.m., followed by No. 2 seed Duke and No. 3 seed Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. The championship game will be played on Sat., May 4 at the home of the highest remaining seed with faceoff slated for 2 p.m.
