CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Freshman Ethan Dabbs (Johnstown, Pa.) led the Virginia men’s track and field team on Friday (April 26) to open the Virginia Grand Prix at Lannigan Field.

Dabbs captured the top throw in the javelin with a mark of 71.31m (233’11). The career-best throw ranks fourth all-time at UVA and 13th in the NCAA this season. He also ranks fifth in the region and first in the ACC with the performance.

“It was a great day for our javelin throwers despite the weather,” assistant coach Martin Maric said. “Ethan is progressing really well. It will be exciting to see what he is able to do at ACCs.”

In the men’s long jump, freshmen Ayende Watson (Baltimore, Md.) and Trey Causey (Winchester, Va.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the event. Watson jumped 7.19m (23’7.25″) in the third round of the event, while Causey captured a jump of 7.15m (23’5.5″) in the second round.

The Cavaliers will return to action tomorrow for day two of the Virginia Grand Prix. The competition will begin at 11:30 a.m.
