CORAL GABLES, Fla. –  The No. 5 Virginia men’s tennis team (17-3, 8-2 ACC) picked up a 4-0 victory at No. 24 Miami (16-7, 7-3) on Sunday (April 7) in Coral Gables, Fla.
 
The Cavaliers won the doubles point and used victories on courts one, two and six to win the battle of top-25 teams. Freshman Brandon Nakashima (San Diego, Calif.) clinched the victory with a win on singles court two.
 
In doubles, junior Carl Soderlund (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Matthew Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.) started things off with a 6-3 victory on court one. Senior Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) and freshman Brandon Nakashima (San Diego, Calif.) clinched the point with a 6-4 win on court two.
 
In singles, Söderlund dominated his match on court one, downing No. 36 Adria Soriano Barrera, 6-0, 6-0, to give UVA a 2-0 lead. Senior Aswin Lizen (Douglas, Isle of Man) put the Cavaliers on the brink of victory with a straight-set win over William Grattan-Smith on court six. Nakashima rebounded from a 6-4 loss to Francisco Bastias in the first set to win 6-0 in the second set and 6-4 in the decider to clinch the victory for the Cavaliers.
 
The Cavaliers close out the regular season at home next weekend, hosting No. 11 North Carolina on Friday, April 12 at 3 p.m., and No. 43 Virginia Tech on Sunday, April 14 at 1 p.m. Both matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Snyder Tennis Center.
