No. 10 Virginia Opens New Year with 9-0 Win Against Vassar
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 10 Virginia women’s squash team (5-3) opened 2020 with a 9-0 win over Vassar (4-9) on Saturday (Jan. 11) at the McArthur Squash Center.
The Cavaliers won eight matches 3-0 and captured the ninth point with a default win in position nine.
Senior Sarah Doss (Richmond, Va.) opened the day with an 11-1, 11-0, 11-1 win over Alexa Elias in position six. Sophomore Emma Jinks (Stratford, Prince Edward Island) won against Sydney Nemphos 11-2, 11-5, 11-3 in position one, while junior Emily Woodworth (Weston, Mass.) won against Isabel Bronson 11-5, 11-5, 11-2 in position two.
Freshmen Julia Curran (Bronxville, N.Y.) and Grace Seymour (Brooklyn Heights, N.Y.) recorded wins in positions three and four, respectively. Curran defeated Samantha Henderson 11-4, 11-4, 11-3, while Seymour defeated Amanda Watson 11-1, 11-4, 11-3.
Sophomore Caroline Baldwin (Rye, N.Y) captured a score of 11-2, 11-2, 11-0 to defeat Odie Berkson in position five.
Seniors Isabelle Ezratty (Greenwich, Conn.) and Lois Lo (Hong Kong) rounded out the day with wins in positions seven and eight, respectively. Ezratty recorded a score of 11-2 in the first game before blanking game two with an 11-0 win. She won game three with an 11-4 score. Lo captured an 11-2 win in game one before following with an 11-1 win in game two and an 11-2 win in game three.
Virginia will return to action on Wednesday (Jan. 15) as the team hosts No. 12 Brown (0-1) at 6 p.m. at the McArthur Squash Center.
