CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Midfielder Sammy Mueller (Pelham, N.Y.) and defender Lauren Martin (McLean, Va.) of Virginia women’s lacrosse were recognized on the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Teams, the organization announced on Wednesday (Jan. 22).
 
Mueller, a first team preseason selection, was a First Team All-American last season and was a Top 25 Tewaaraton Award Nominee. The senior led the Cavaliers with 72 points on 48 goals and 24 assists in 2019. She also picked up 80 draw controls, 57 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers. Mueller enters 2020 eight all-time at UVA with 144 goals and fifth all-time with 175 draw controls.
 
Martin earned honorable mention honors after starting every game on defense for the last three seasons. The senior has recorded 50 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers in her career so far at UVA. Martin is one of the top defenders on a defense that held opposing offenses to single-digit goals in seven games.
 
Virginia will begin the 2020 season on the road, traveling to Navy on Saturday, Feb. 8 at noon.
