BLACKBURG, Va. – Senior Alexis Woodley (Chesapeake, Va.) set a UVA record to the lead the Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams on the opening day (Jan. 24) of the Hokie Invitational at the Rector Field House.
 
Woodley topped the school record she set the 60m hurdles in 2018, running a time of 8.31 in the finals of the event. She dropped 11 hundredths of a second from her prelim time of 8.42 during the finals to place fourth overall.
 
Sophomore Alix Still (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) earned a spot on UVA’s all-time best list, capturing the 10th-best pentathlon score in school history at 3,575. Still finished in the top three in three out of five events.
 
Senior Tedi DeMaria (Feura Bush, N.Y.) cleared 3.80m (12’5.5″) to win the women’s unseeded pole vault competition.
 
Sophomores Owayne Owens (Montego Bay, Jamaica) and Zoe Rice (Ashburn, Va.) placed inside the top five of the men’s and women’s triple jump. Owens reached 15.27m (50’1.25″) on his final attempt to place third in the men’s triple jump. With her third attempt during the meet, Rice captured a mark of 12.11m (39’8.75″) to finish fourth in the women’s competition.   
 
In the 60m dash, senior Anna Jefferson (Warren, Mich.) ran a time of 7.47 for a fifth-place finish in the finals. 
 
Andrenette Knight (Morant Bay, Jamaica) joined Woodley in the finals of the 60m hurdles. The senior recorded a time of 8.64 to finish sixth in the event.
 
Freshman Derek Pekar (Ventura, Calif.) captured the lead coming out of day one of the men’s heptathlon. After four events, he holds a score of 2,928. Freshman Elby Omohundro (Midlothian, Va.) is in seventh place with 2,269 points.
 
Virginia will return to action tomorrow to conclude the Hokie Invitational. Events for the heptathlon will begin at 9:30 a.m.
