USTFCCCA Release

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Sophomore Peter Morris (Hamilton, Va.) was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team on Thursday (Jan. 30).  
 
Morris was an instrumental part of the men’s cross country team, earning All-ACC and All-Southeast honors during the season. The sophomore was the top UVA runner at the ACC Championships where he finished 12th and earned his first conference accolade. He followed with a 17th-place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships as Virginia recorded its third regional title in program history. At the NCAA Championships, Morris was the second Cavalier to cross the finish line, helping Virginia place 20th in the team standings.
 
The USTFCCCA academic honor is the first for Morris. He was also named a 2019 All-ACC Academic Team selection.
 
Both Cavalier programs received team recognition for their academic performance during the fall of 2019. The men’s team recorded a GPA of 3.11 while the women’s team had a combined GPA of 3.24.
 
In order for a student-athlete to qualify for the USTFCCCA honor, they must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finished in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet.
 
For a team to qualify, a program must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
