Virginia Plays at No. 9 NC State on Sunday at Noon

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (5-8, 0-2 ACC) travels to play at No. 9 NC State (13-0, 2-0 ACC) on Sunday, Jan. 5 at 12 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C.
 
BROADCAST INFORMATION

  • The game will be televised on the ACC Regional Sports Networks and will stream online in most markets through the Fox Sports Go app
  • All of the 2019-20 Virginia women’s basketball games – home and away – are available locally on the radio on NewsRadio 1070 AM and 98.9 FM WINA

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • Virginia is +6.0 in rebounding margin in ACC games this season, the best mark in the conference. UVA outrebounded both Georgia Tech and UNC by six
  • North Carolina came into Thursday’s game leading the ACC in scoring, averaging 79.8 points per game. Virginia’s defense held the Tar Heels to 14.8 points below their season average
  • UNC and UVA went toe-to-toe in the paint, each team scoring 34 points there. It was the highest points-in-the-paint total for UVA this season
  • Senior guard Jocelyn Willoughby (East Orange, N.J.) ranks second in the ACC in scoring at 18.8 points per game and ranks eighth in rebounding, averaging 8.6 per game
  • Willoughby picked up her 750th career rebound against UNC. She is 22 boards shy of moving into the top-10 rebounders in program history. Dawn Staley currently sits at No. 10 with 772 in her career
  • Senior forward Lisa Jablonowski (Ernster, Luxembourg) has scored in double figures in each of the last four games
  • In the last three games, Jablonowski is 14-of-22 from the field. In the two ACC games, she is shooting 61.1 percent, tying her with NC State’s Elissa Cunane for the second-highest shooting percentage in conference games so far this season
  • Freshman guard Shemera Williams (Milwaukee, Wisc.) has played her way into the starting lineup, making her debut in just her fifth collegiate game after missing the first eight games of the season with a leg injury. Williams ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.2 points per game. Williams has scored in double figures in four of her five games this season, including scoring 12 points on Thursday against UNC
  • Williams leads the team in three-point shooting efficiency, going 6-of-13 (46.2 percent). She was 2-of-5 from long range against North Carolina while the rest of the team was a combined 1-of-9
  • Virginia was 21-of-47 (44.6 percent) from three-point range in the four games prior to the UNC game, but couldn’t find their stroke against the Tar Heels, going 3-of-14

 
SCOUTING NC STATE

  • NC State is one of eight undefeated teams in NCAA Division I women’s basketball and the only remaining unbeaten team in the ACC
  • The Wolfpack lead the ACC and are ranked fifth in the nation in rebounds per game (45.7). Their +12.5 rebound margin also paces the conference and is seventh in the country
  • Opponents are shooting 32.5 percent against NC State this season
  • Elissa Cunane leads the team in scoring at 16.8 points per game (sixth in the ACC) and rebounds 10.5 (second in the ACC). She leads the conference in field goal percentage (64.3 percent)
  • NC State leads the ACC in made three-pointers, averaging 8.9 per game. Aislinn Konig and Kai Cruthchfield both average more than two made-threes per gam

  • The Cavaliers will be back in action at JPJ on Thursday, Jan. 9, hosting Duke (7-5) with an early start time of 6 p.m. The game will be televised on the ACC Network
