CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The Virginia men’s tennis team (4-3) will take on No. 11 TCU (3-1) on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • Sophomore Ryan Goetz (Greenlawn, N.Y.) has moved up to No. 81 in the singles rankings. He was ranked No. 115 heading into the spring dual season
  • Four Cavaliers only have one loss in dual matches this season: senior Ammar Alhaqbani (Alexandria, Va.), junior Matthew Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.), sophomore William Woodall (Washington, D.C.) and freshman Christian Alshon (Boca Raton, Fla.)
  • The doubles team of Lord and senior Carl Soderlund (Stockholm, Sweden) is ranked No. 35 in the latest ITA doubles rankings. The tandem is 3-0 in dual matches this spring. Lord and Goetz are 2-0 as a doubles team this spring
  • The Cavaliers are perfect at No. 5 singles this season, posting a 5-0 record at the slot

 
NOTING TCU

  • TCU is coming off a 4-2 loss at No. 16 Michigan last Saturday (Feb. 1) and has dropped to No. 11 in the ITA team rankings
  • The Horned Frogs have four players ranked in singles: Alastair Gray (55), Jacob Fearnley (74), Tadeas Paroulek (122) and Luc Fomba (125). Gray and Fearnley are ranked No. 34 in doubles
  • The Horned Frogs advanced to the 2019 NCAA Quarterfinals and have added a freshman class that was ranked No. 4 in the recruiting rankings
  • This is the first of two-straight matches against ACC opponents as the Horned Frogs return home to host North Carolina on Sunday (Feb. 9)

 
ON THE HORIZON

  • The Cavaliers play their second ranked opponent of the week, heading to Winston-Salem to take on No. 7 Wake Forest (5-0) on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m.
  • This is the first of two meetings between the two teams scheduled for this season. Sunday’s match is considered a non-conference contest. The ACC match between the Demon Deacons and the Cavaliers will take place on Sunday, March 22 in Charlottesville
  • After the Wake Forest match, Virginia will have a 17-day break before hosting a doubleheader on Thursday, Feb. 27 against George Mason (11 a.m.) and Norfolk State (4:30 p.m.) outdoors at the Snyder Tennis Center
