CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia (9-3) will be home on Tuesday (March 3) to host Richmond (2-7) in a non-conference tilt at Disharoon Park. The game is scheduled to air on ACCNX with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.

Promotions: Tuesday will be the first of five $1 hot dog days at Disharoon Park this season. Other dates include: March 31 vs. Cornell, April 9 vs. Wake Forest, April 21 vs. liberty and May 14 vs. North Carolina.

For all regular season home games, available reserved single-game tickets can be purchased in advance for $8 (Sections 101-105 / 115-116) or $10 (Sections 106 and 114) online or via mobile devices. Tickets are $10 (Sections 101-105 / 115-116) or $12(Sections 106 and 114) at the Disharoon Park ticket office on game day. General admission single-game tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the Disharoon Park ticket office locations on game day.

Parking
Eight bays in JPJ South (formerly U-Hall lot) for baseball and/or softball patrons on a first-come, first-served basis. Overflow parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in the JPJ South and JPJ West lots and JPJ Parking Garage.

LEADING OFF
• Virginia comes into Tuesday winners of five-straight games and is 8-1 on its current 15-game home stand.
• The Cavaliers have one 20 of the last 21 games against non-conference opponents at Disharoon Park.
• Through the first 12 games, Virginia is off to its best start since 2017 when in won the first 10 games of the season and 11 of the first 12.
• Richmond will be UVA’s third of 10 in-state opponents this season. The Cavaliers have won 10-straight games against Commonwealth schools at Disharoon Park and are 2-0 this season.
• The Cavaliers have won 14 of 15 matchups against Richmond under head coach Brian O’Connor with the only setback coming in 2018 in Charlottesville.
• The last 10 meetings between Richmond and UVA have taken place at Disharoon Park.
• Virginia owns an 86-59-2 all-time record against Richmond in an all-time series that dates back to 1889, the very first season of Cavalier baseball.
 
LEAVING THE YARD
• Through 12 games this season Virginia has hit 14 home runs, the third most in the ACC.
• Virginia has hit 14 or more home runs through its first 12 games one other time in Brian O’Connor’s tenure – 2017 with 15 in the first dozen games.
• Eight different players have been responsible for the 14 Cavalier long balls. Of the eight players, five went deep for the first time in their Cavalier careers.
• Christian Hlinka leads the team and is tied for second with four homers in just 23 at bats. Of the 59 players in DI baseball with four or more home runs, only 10, including Hlinka, have appeared in nine or less games.
• Virginia has hit two grand slams, the latest coming off the bat of Chris Newell who powered an eight-run seventh inning against Dartmouth on Friday.
• Zack Gelof rounded the bases for an inside the park home run on Saturday against Dartmouth, the first since Danny Hultzen did it against Richmond on April 20, 2011.
• Hlinka and teammate Jimmy Sullivan went back-to-back against Dartmouth on Saturday becoming the first duo since Jake McCarthy and Adam Haseley hit consecutive home runs at Georgia Tech on May 18, 2017.
 
ON THE HILL
• Virginia pitchers have combined to strikeout 143 batters, the seventh most in Division I baseball.
• Freshman Matt Wyatt will get his first collegiate start on Tuesday after working five innings of relief work over the course of four appearances in 2020.
• He is the second freshman (Nate Savino) to make start on the mound for the Cavaliers this season.
• Reliever Stephen Schoch currently leads the ACC with eight appearances and is second in the ACC with four saves.
• With a combined 12 appearances, Andrew Abbott and Kyle Whitten have yet to surrender an earned run. Abbott is tied for the team lead with three wins and Whitten has a team-best three bullpen holds to his credit.
 
NEWELL-COMER
• In four games last week, freshman Chris Newell went 10-for-15 (.667) with three doubles, a triple, a grand slam eight RBI and five runs scored.
• Newell currently leads the team in batting average (.429) and co-leads the team with Zack Gelof in hits (15), doubles (4) and RBI (12).
• Newell’s .592 on-base percentage is tops in the ACC and ranked 16th-best in the NCAA. He’s slugging .771 which is second only to NC State’s Devonte Brown among ACC performers.
• Newell has reached base in all but one of his first 12 games of his college career and has four-straight multi-hit games coming into Tuesday.
• On top of his work at the plate, Newell is a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases, tied for the fourth most in the ACC.
 
SEEING TRIPLE
• First year second baseman Max Cotier tripled twice in Saturday’s 12-4 win over Dartmouth becoming the first Cavaliers since Adam Haseley tripled twice in a game against Wake Forest.
• Cotier and Gelof are two of the seven players in the ACC with two triples to their credit this season.
• As a team, Virginia has totaled six triples, one shy of Duke’s seven for the ACC lead. The Cavaliers accumulated nine triples in all of the 2019 season.
 
PLAYER NOTES
• Gelof had his run of six-straight games with two or more hits end on Sunday. During the six-game stretch he was 14-for-22 with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored. He ranks third in the ACC with 14 runs scored this season. Gelof has started 68-straight games at third base for Virginia the longest active start streak on the team.
• Marc Lebreux and Logan Michaels come into Tuesday’s game with five-game hit streaks. Lebreux scored seven times in four wins last week.
