Virginia Sends Five to NCAA Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field team will send five athletes to the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. The two-day meet will begin on Friday (March 13) and will run through Saturday (March 14).
Senior Jordan Scott (Portmore, Jamaica) and sophomore Owayne Owens (Montego Bay, Jamaica) earned a spot in the triple jump, ranking first and seventh, respectively, while freshman Jada Seaman (Pikesville, Md.) and junior Khyasia Caldwell (Pocono Summit, Pa.) will compete in the long jump as the respective six and 16th seed. Senior Brenton Foster (Townsville, Australia) advanced to the national meet in the high jump. He ranks fourth in the NCAA.
Tickets are available through the NCAA and are linked at VirginiaSports.com. The women’s long jump will compete at 8:55 p.m. ET on Friday. The men’s high jump will start at 3:15 p.m. and the men’s triple jump will start 7 p.m. on Saturday.
The meet will be streamed live on ESPN3 starting at 7:15 p.m. ET March 13 and starting at 6 p.m. ET March 14.
Scott enters the national meet as the top seed in the triple jump, capturing a career-best jump of 17.02m (55-10.25) during the regular season. His NCAA-leading jump set an ACC and UVA record, and ranked him 17th all-time in NCAA history. Scott, the defending indoor national champion in the event, holds the top three jumps this season. Scott advanced to the indoor meet for the fourth consecutive year.
Owens will compete alongside Scott in the triple jump after recording a career-best jump of 16.25m (53-3.75). Owens ranks seventh in the NCAA this season and holds the third-best jump in UVA history. He will compete at his first NCAA Championships.
In the women’s long jump, Seaman recorded a mark of 6.46m (21-2.5) at the ACC Championships to win her first ACC title. Her career-best jump set a UVA record and ranked her sixth in the NCAA this season. Caldwell concluded her first indoor conference meet with a jump of 6.29m (20-7.75), the 16th-best jump by an athlete this season. Her mark ranks fourth all-time in UVA history. Caldwell finished behind Seaman at the ACC Championships to earn a silver medal in the event. Both athletes are in their first year of indoor eligibility and will compete at the national meet for the first time.
Foster advanced to the indoor NCAA Championships for his third time in the high jump. The senior set a UVA record during the season, clearing a height of 2.26m (7-5) to top the UVA record he shared with Herman Moore. Foster went on to win the ACC title in the event. His career-best indoor mark ranks fourth in the NCAA this season.
