CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The Virginia women’s tennis team (10-5, 4-3 ACC) came up just short in a battle against No. 4 Florida State (14-3, 6-1 ACC), falling 4-3 to the Seminoles on Sunday (Mar. 8) at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va.

Florida State captured the doubles point, but the Cavaliers came back to tie the match with a 6-3, 6-0 victory by sophomore Sofia Munera (Pereira, Colombia) on court four. Florida State pushed back ahead 2-1 with a win on singles court two, but again Virginia answered, tying the match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory by freshman Natasha Subhash (Fairfax, Va.) on the top court. Senior Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) gutted out a 6-3, 7-5 victory on court five to give UVA its first lead of the match, 3-2, putting the fate of the contest in two very close matches on courts three and six.

On court six, junior Vivian Glozman (Bellevue, Wash.) lost her first set in a tiebreaker and battled through the second set, which was on serve, 6-5, before Alice Amendola came up with the break to take the second set 7-5 and tie the match score at three.

On court three, sophomore Amber O’Dell (New Milford, N.J.) won her first set 7-5, but Victoria Allen took the second set, 6-3, to force the decider. The match was on-serve at 4-4 when O’Dell picked up a break to take a 5-4 lead. Allen broke back, winning a deuce point to put it back on serve and then held to take a 6-5 lead. Allen broke O’Dell’s serve again to win the set 7-5, clinching the match and the overall victory for the Seminoles.
