Virginia Wraps Up Home Stand Tuesday and Wednesday Against UMass Lowell

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia (12-4) will host UMass Lowell (4-9) in a two-game midweek series beginning Tuesday (March 10) at 1 p.m. The Cavalier home stand concludes on Wednesday (March 11) with an 11 a.m. start. Both contests will air live on ACCNX.

Ticket Information
Fans can purchase tickets at a discounted rate in advance by going online to UVATix.com. For all regular season home games, available reserved single-game tickets can be purchased in advance for $8 (Sections 101-105 / 115-116) or $10 (Sections 106 and 114) online or via mobile devices. Tickets are $10 (Sections 101-105 / 115-116) or $12(Sections 106 and 114) at the Disharoon Park ticket office on game day. General admission single-game tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the Disharoon Park ticket office locations on game day.

Parking
Tuesday: Eight (8) parking bays in the JPJ South (formerly U-Hall lot) lot will be reserved for baseball fans on a first-come, first-served basis. Overflow parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in the JPJ South and JPJ West lots and JPJ Parking Garage.
Wednesday: Four (4) parking bays in the JPJ South (formerly U-Hall lot) lot will be reserved for baseball fans on a first-come, first-served basis. Overflow parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in the JPJ South and JPJ West lots and JPJ Parking Garage.

LEADING OFF
• UMass Lowell is the lone first-time opponent on the 2020 Virginia schedule.
• The Cavaliers are 6-5 all-time against current members of the America East Conference – Hartford (1-1), Stony Brook (3-1), Maine (2-3).
• The Cavaliers are 11-2 on their current 15-game home stand, the longest in stretch at home in the Brian O’Connor era (since 2004).
• Virginia has won 21 of its last 22 games against non-conference opponents at Disharoon Park dating back to last season. Virginia is 10-3 overall in non-conference play and 9-1 at home against non-ACC foes this season.
• The Cavaliers are off to their best start since 2017 when they won 14 of the first 16 game. Virginia has recorded 10 or more wins through the first 16 games in all but one season under Brian O’Connor.
• Virginia is one of 39 teams in the NCAA with 12 or more wins.
ON THE NATIONAL SCENE
• The Cavaliers are ranked as high as No. 17 (Baseball America) in this week’s national polls.
• Virginia came in at No. 23 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s Top 25 and entered as the 25th ranked team in this week’s D1Baseball.com’s national rankings.
• The Cavaliers are receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll for the second-straight week and have not been included in the top-25 since March 19, 2018.
ACC OPENING WEEKEND
• Virginia took two out of three games against then No. 7 NC State for the first time since 2013.
• NC State was the second-straight top-10 team to come to drop a series (No. 5 Louisville – 2019) at Disharoon Park.
• The Cavaliers took the rubber match on Sunday, 10-3 due in large part to a six-run outburst in the bottom of the second inning.
• The Wolfpack came into the series with the country’s highest team batting average and were ranked in the top 10 in nearly every offensive category. Cavalier pitchers held NC State to a season-low, three runs, twice.
• Virginia pitchers stranded a total of 36 runners on base including 17 in the series-opening win on Saturday.
OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION
• The 10-run effort in the series finale against NC State was the seventh time Virginia has scored 10 or more runs in a game this season.
• Virginia has homered in eight-straight games, the longest streak since stringing together 10-straight games with a long ball in 2017.
• The Cavaliers have plated 134 runs this season the 11th most in the country and second only to NC Stat’s 137 in the ACC.
• Virginia’s 19 home runs are the third most in the ACC and 16th most in the nation. The Cavaliers hit a total of 28 all of last season.
• In the NC State series, Virginia swiped nine bags, including a season-high seven in the series opener. The Cavaliers 30 stolen bases as a team are the third most among ACC schools and ranked 19th in the country.
• Eight different players have been responsible for the 19 Cavalier home runs. Of the eight players, five went deep for the first time in their Cavalier careers.
ON THE HILL
• First year Matthew Wyatt will make his second start of the season on Tuesday. The right-hander gave Virginia three scoreless innings to begin the game against Richmond on last Tuesday. He did not walk a batter, allowed two hits and struck out one in a 16-7 win.
• The Cavalier pitching staff its closing in on 200 strikeouts and comes into the midweek series with 184, the 11th most in the NCAA. Virginia pitchers have struck out 10 or more batters in all but four games this season.
• Graduate student Stephen Schoch is 5-for-5 in save opportunities this season, the second most in the ACC. He has appeared in a team-high 10 games this season.
PLAYER NOTES
• Logan Michaels and Marc Lebreux come into the midweek series with nine-game hit streaks. Lebreux and Nic Kent has reached base in 13-straight games.
• Freshman Max Cotier put together a pair of three-hit efforts last week including a 3-for-5, four-RBI day on Sunday. Cotier also tallied his fourth triple of the season in the win and is now tied for the NCAA lead in triples this season with four.
• Zack Gelof provided the fireworks in the final game of the series against NC State, homering twice. It marked the first time since Brendan Rivoli cracked a pair against James Madison last season that a Cavalier accomplished the feat. Gelof moved into a tie with Chris Newell for the team lead with five.
