CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Right side Jelena Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) signed a professional contract with ASPTT Mulhouse of the Women’s A League (Ligue AF) in France. Novakovic becomes the first Cavalier to ink a professional deal since Emily Rottman in 2014.

ASPTT Mulhouse is one of 14 teams in the top French division and captured the league title as recently as 2017. Mulhouse was leading the league with a 20-4 mark this season prior to the halt of competitions. The 2020-21 Ligue AF regular season is tentatively slated for an October start.

The club will qualify for the European Champions League based on its standing atop the table when play resumes. In 2019, Mulhouse captured the second tier CEV European Championship.

Novakovic amassed 822 kills over three seasons at Virginia. She posted 286 terminations and a career-high 42 aces in her final campaign on Grounds. Her strong performance coupled with her academic success earned Novakovic a spot on the 2019 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team.

Novakovic will be one of six newcomers to the club this fall.
